What KEF SPEAKERS Deliver in Real Terms without the MARKETING HYPERBOLE
Exceptional acoustic accuracy
KEF’s central mission is to reproduce sound as naturally and precisely as possible, with minimal intervention. This fidelity is NOT achieved by any particular aspect or whiz bang technology, but engineering a speaker that delivers the fundamentals of excellent sound reproduction: a flat frequency response with little deviation, excellent horizontal dispersion, excellent vertical dispersion, with a cabinet that diminishes both cabinet and driver interactions and resonances.
These fundamentals are challenges that all speaker designers face and address to the best of their abilities and budgets. Yes, the KEF speakers have unique and patented technologies to arrive at addressing the fundamentals, as do our other brands of speakers. Their commitment to this speaker design or driver array has delivered success, but hardly overnight. KEF has been steadily improving their original concept of the UNI-Q or the tweeter inside the midrange/woofer since their original patent in 1988. The overnight success that took almost 30 years!
KEF’s commitment to a single point source
The core of KEF’s sound is its patented Uni-Q driver array, which places the tweeter in the acoustic center of the midrange cone. This creates a single-point sound source that disperses sound evenly throughout a room, broadening horizontal dispersion and the so-called “sweet spot” so every listener experiences the same details and timbre anywhere you sit. KEF patented this in 1988 and have been refining it over the last twenty plus. years and is now in it’s 12th version.
Reduced distortion for better sound
Many KEF speakers incorporate Metamaterial Absorption Technology (META), which uses a complex, maze-like structure to absorb 99% of unwanted sound from the rear of the driver. This prevents sound from reflecting and interfering with the primary output, resulting in a cleaner, more natural sound. This is not marketing fluff, this approach of deadening the back wave that comes off the rear of the driver has been addressed to some level of success by speaker engineers for decades. KEF found a novel way to do it that works exceptionally well for their drivers.
