The Q Series is your entry into the KEF family and you will enjoy the Uni-Q driver which KEF uses throughout its lineup, all the way to the jaw-dropping KEF Blades at $33,000 pair. While the tweeters vary in material choices and details, the KEF Uni-Q drivers, an integrated tweeter and midrange driver, is a design that KEF has been refining for over 45 years.
The Uni-Q is a design approach of to create a true “point source.” A point source is type of speaker that features the sound originating from a single point, or source, not multiple points, such as with multiple drivers of midranges and tweeters. The Uni-Q driver array places the tweeter in the center of the midrange and bass cone, bringing the acoustic ideal of a single point source to reality. The acoustic benefit is a more accurate three-dimensional sound that’s dispersed evenly throughout the room.
The entire range of Q Series are all built around the Uni-Q driver using three driver sizes. The Q950 uses the largest Uni-Q at 8″, Q750 uses the 6.5″ Uni-Q, and the Q550 uses the 5.5″ Uni-Q. The smaller brother bookshelf speakers, the Q350 uses the 6.5″ Uni-Q and the Q150 uses 5.25″ Uni-Q. On the Q650 center speaker and Atmos surround speakers, both use the 6.5″ Uni-Q .
